Its is essential that clients appoint a CDM C as soon as the possible once a project looks like proceeding. This early appointment gives time for all duty holders under CDM 2007 to carry out their roles adequately and provide essential information for the pre-construction information.

Allowing adequate time at the pre-construction stage provides the best possible start once construction work commences, avoiding costly delays and providing the principle contractor with the health and safety information required to develop the construction phase plan.

The principle contractor has a duty to prepare a construction phase plan prior to work commencing on site, the plan is a live document which requires updating throughout the project duration.
